2018.04.18 07:11 beary_good Explain Like I'm a Guacamole: DC Summer 2018 Events and Relaunches - No Justice, Bendis, Bat-Wedding, and more!

Metropolis under fire! A galactic alien invasion! Uninvited wedding guests! This summer is going to be an extravaganza of events, and you don't want to miss it! Luckily, this FAQ will be your one-stop guide to the DC Comics 2018 summer extravaganza!

Q: So what is actually happening this summer?
Well, it's a trio of events! First, we have No Justice, a month-long May event in which Scott Snyder (of Batman and Dark Nights: Metal fame) pits the greater DC Universe against a massive cosmic threat. Then in June, Brian Michael Bendis (Alias, Daredevil, Ultimate Spider-Man) restructures the Superman line, starting with the event mini-series The Man of Steel. Then finally in July, Batman and Catwoman (attempt to) tie the knot, in the pages of Batman, written by Tom King (Mister Miracle, The Vision, The Omega Men). There will be tie-ins, and new books and creative teams will spin out of these events.
It all starts with DC Nation #0, a primer to these three events that will be released on May 2. This issue will be $.25 in stores, and free digitally. For more information on how to get this, you can check with your local comic shop or an online retailer such as Midtown Comics. Or just simply pre-order it from a digital store such as Comixology.

Q: Is this a good time to jump in? Is there anything I need to read beforehand?
Yes! Event books are usually constructed to hook readers in even if they're not completely caught up on the latest events. And they'll kickstart several new books and creative team runs, so that readers will have new series to read every month. As said before, DC Nation #0 is a good place to jump in.
With that said, many do want to have a bit of context leading up to these events, and I've provided lists of background reading for these three respective events.

So without further ado, here are the breakdowns of the upcoming summer events. Do note that as of this time, not all new series and creative team changes have been announced. I'll be updating this guide as additional news come in.

Do note that the art teams listed for the respective launches of each series are only short-term.
And lastly, the aftermath of DC/Young Animal: Milk Wars has launched (or relaunched) a new set of Young Animal books. And perhaps, someday, the resuming of Doom Patrol. Maybe.
